Alfa Romeo “Furiosa” Over Online Contest Name Winner

Alfa Romeo “Furiosa” Over Online Contest Name Winner

Last week had every car blog declaring the new name of the Alfa Romeo was going to be “Furiosa”. Well it seems like the democratic process of online voting didn’t suit the company and they have declared the results null and void. Rumor has it that the company was furious with the name due to the fact that it was too close to the name of the movie “The Fast and The Furious” and because “furiosa” means a woman who is angry and/or gay. Guess that’s not the image Alfa was looking to portray with their little Alfa Junior.

Vauxhall’s Revamped Zafira

Pictures of the new face lifted Zafira from Vauxhall are circulating the net. The compact MPV has been subjected to a raft of both interior and exterior changes with the intent of updating it to rival the Ford C-Max and Volkswagen Touareg.

The exterior updates include a new front end with chrome grille and chrome trim around the revamped headlights. The lower front grille has also been restyled. Vauxhall has revamped the fog lights and given it sporty side skirts which give it a distinctive look. The backend has new tail lights and a deeper rear bumper.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage N400

Aston Martin V8 Vantage N400

Aston Martin will build a Roadster variant of the V8 Vantage N400, a special limited-edition based on the V8 Vantage shown at the latest Frankfurt auto show and dedicated to the legendary Nürburgringer Nordschleife.

Only 240 units will be produced, but for the Roadster version it will not be possible to order the roll bar that can be had as an optional for the N400 coupè. The N400 pack consists of a new, more powerful version of the 4.3-litre V8 engine of the Vantage, that on the N400 outputs 400 bhp and 420Nm. The suspension set-up is also different from the softer one of the normal Vantage Roadster.

VIDEO Test Drive: Lamborghini Reventon

The Lamborghini Reventon is an astonishing piece of work. Only 20 examples are being built, each one selling for a ridiculous $1,000,000 sum. Powered by the Mucielago LP640 v12 engine, the Reventon is capable of thrusting itself from 0-60 in just 3.4 seconds, and will only stop accelerating once the speedometer shows as going 211 miles per hour.

Popular Science car reporter William R. Snyder as he took Reventon for its first test drive by the press.

2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe

2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe

Take a good look at Car Online’s scoop pictures of the next-gen Sports Coupe. Looks far too similar with the current C-Class Sport Coupe doesn’t it? Of course it does since Mercedes-Benz decided to save heap loads of money by adding the front end of the new C-Class (see here) in order to support the latest engines and dashboard to the “old” Sports Coupe chassis. We were never fans of the Sports Coupe’s appearance and we doubt if the new front end will make us change our mind.

Honda S2000 Type S - Tokyo auto show

Honda S2000 Type S - Tokyo auto show

Honda has revealed the look of its Japan-spec S2000 Type S ahead of the car’s local launch at tomorrow’s Tokyo Motor Show. The car is essentially the same package as the U.S. delivered S2000 CR but differs by the inclusion of the standard folding roof instead of the aluminum hardtop as well as a new rear wing diffuser.

The factory-tuned roadster also features firmer suspension, increased body and chassis rigidity, overall weight reduction plus a unique aerodynamic package. The car is described by its developers as the “closest thing you can get to a Honda-built racecar with license plate holders and a horn,” signifying the desire of its target market of weekend club racers.

Honda CR-Z Concept

Honda CR-Z Concept

Honda’s Tokyo Show offerings include a compact-coupe concept which paves the way for a successor to the highly successful CR-X coupe which went out of production in 1997. The Compact Renaissance Zero, or simply CR-Z, should be considered as Honda’s second attempt to revive the CR-X concept, following the poorly received Remix prototype that premiered at last year’s L.A. Show. While the CR-Z is definitely much better looking than the Remix concept, we can’t say that we’re exactly thrilled with its appearance and especially with the rear end which looks, well, just hideous. In the teaser press release, Honda says that the CR-Z is equipped with a gas-electric hybrid system which achieves both clean performance and a high level of torque.

Bentley Arnage 2010

Bentley Arnage 2010

Autocar reports that the Bentley Arnage will be replaced with a new model for the 2010 model year. Amid speculation that the Veyron-engined Arnage built recently and described by Bentley as a “prototype” is an indication of the next-generation Arnage’s powerplant – almost 1000 hp – the word is that the 2010 Arnage will have an aluminum spaceframe chassis produced by Audi, an aluminum body, and possibly a hybrid version of the current 6.75 liter V-8 using the transmission developed for the Audi Q7 hybrid or the hybrid transmission currently under development for the next Audi Quattro.
