New Spyder Inspired Porsche Boxster

New Spyder Inspired Porsche Boxster

In early December Porsche will launch a special edition Boxster that has been inspired by the 1960s Porsche Type 718 RS 60 Spyder. Limited to only 1,960 models worldwide the biggest change is the modified exhaust system that consists of a sports exhaust combined with a dual tailpipe that increased engine output to 303 bhp.

Offered in a GT silver metallic grey, the car comes accentuated with a red roof and natural leather interior in Carrera red, though the pictures make it look like a magenta leaning more towards hot pink than red. Thankfully, the car is also offered in dark grey leather with a black roof. The car sits on 19-inch wheel, which spacer plates have moved outwards, and its front end is a standard feature from Porsche’s SportDesign Package. Completing the sporty orientation is the Porsche Active Suspension Management system.

Kimi Raikkonen wins championship

Kimi Raikkonen has become the 2007 Formula One World Champion. In a hectic race where each of the top three could have won it, it was Raikkonen who led his team mate over the finish line to win his first Brazilian race and his first world champion. After so many close attempts, Kimi is a worthy champion, and after his convincing display today around Autodromo Carlos Pace, McLaren will be kicking themselves for letting it slip away. Kimi dominates to keep title hopes alive

Kimi dominates to keep title hopes alive

Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen has outperformed his team mate and shattered the pace of the McLarens this afternoon as he cruised to a fine win in the Ardennes forest. Felipe Massa brought home his Ferrari in second place, and the Scuderia have now officially sealed the 2007 constructors championship following McLaren’s exclusion. The loosing of the point over his team mate now means that Massa is unlikely to be pushed ahead for the title. Instead, Jean Todt will have to put the majority of resources behind todays winner as the season progresses away from Europe and into Asia.

Alonso’s Monza masterclass

Alonso’s Monza masterclass

Fernando Alonso trimmed McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton’s title advantage to just three points by delivering a Monza masterclass in the Italian Grand Prix.

The world champion stamped his authority on the race from the off and was never challenged en route to his first win at the historic venue and his fourth victory of 2007.

Hamilton was unable to match Alonso’s pace but protected his points lead by putting a bold pass on Kimi Raikkonen after the Ferrari driver used a one-stop strategy to leapfrog the rookie following his second pit visit.

McLaren, Ferrari resume duel at Italian GP as off track controversy simmers

MONZA, Italy (AP) _ Lewis Hamilton believes McLaren has a mental edge over Ferrari in the Formula One championship despite the discovery of new evidence in the spy scandal.

“If you look at what’s gone on, I do think we are the stronger team,” the McLaren driver said Thursday, three days before the Italian Grand Prix.

The International Automobile Federation has called a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council on Sept. 13, which could lead to a two-year ban for McLaren for obtaining confidential information from Ferrari.

That would spell the end of Hamilton’s title challenge, but the 22-year-old Briton, who leads the series in his rookie season, is thinking only about Sunday’s race at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza.

Audi TT Roadster

Audi TT Roadster

A potent high-performance version of the TT Coupe and Roadster is not very far away, however, specific details of the future model are still hard to come by. There’s been much debate about the power source for the new super-coupe with most suggesting either a twin-turbo version of the current 3.2L V6 engine or a brand new five-cylinder turbo unit.

According to info leaked from a reputable source at Audi, the new car will actually be powered by a 2.3L VR5 engine with a turbocharger. Final output will be 308hp (230kW), and the car won’t be called the TT-RS but simply TT-R. The engine will feature all the latest in Audi technology include new direct-injection as well as a fast-spooling turbo. This engine will also feature in multiple models in the Audi range apart from the TT.

Good Bye McLaren, Hello HWA

Good Bye McLaren, Hello HWA

Mercedes-Benz is to launch an all-new mid-engined supercar called the SLC, to rival the Audi R8 and this was further confirmed after spy photographers caught a mule disguised as a longer wheel based Dodge Viper, in some Californian canyon country side recently.

This super-coupe will be developed by AMG and tweaked and tuned by HWA (Hans Werner Aufrecht), which will also build the car for Mercedes at its facilities in Affalterbach. HWA was the motorsport division of AMG prior to Mercedes-Benz taking a major stake in AMG, and has since been independent. It has been running the team for Mercedes in the DTM German Touring Car Championships and it is quite successful. HWA is also now tipped to take over from McLaren as Mercedes’ new partner in the development of upcoming top-end supercars. HWA does have some serious credentials in motorsport as they have a large history with AMG. HWA also have been creating cars for FIA GT1 motor sport as well. Back in 1999, DaimlerChrysler acquired AMG, renaming it to Mercedes AMG GmbH. In doing so, they effectively separated HWA from AMG developments. This left the 170+ employee firm with independence over its products. Such freedom has let HWA produce phenomenal cars such as the the very limited edition CLK GTR roadster in 1999.

Carblog visits Cape Town’s exotic car dealerships

As many “petrolheads” would know, one of the most exciting realms of the motoring world is that of exotics. Thorough-bred sports cars are a good subject on which to spend a weekend afternoon - at least, for those amongst us devoted enough to the boundless thrills of touching, viewing and indeed, driving these beasts. With that in mind, our staffer, known to readers as SLD, spent last Saturday afternoon visiting Cape Town’s exotics dealerships.
